Association Aims

To promote Cross Training in the UK as a good, clean, healthy sport to participate in and one that is fun and exciting to watch.

Our mission statement is:-

Empowering people who freely choose to involve themselves with our aims & goals.

To empower and set free potential without fear

The very antithesis of what we stand for is anyone who wishes to seek control over anyone else for any reason.

You are free to choose

The Cross Training Association has been created to form the basis of the sports new governing body and to provide a central information point and portal for all those people interested in Cross Training either as a competitor or as a sponsor or for media interest.

The main aim initially is to run and promote a simple, non complex, website that can act like a portal to all other affiliated cross training sites. It will run a calendar of all cross training events throughout the year and will act to ensure that there are no events that overlap each other on the same dates. With many events being put on, The Association will act to designate some premier national events that will take calendar preference over smaller local events.

It is not the intention to take away visitors to any of the other cross training websites, and we will not look to duplicate any of the good things that they are doing, but to rather compliment them and to hopefully direct more people to these sites. Anyone with a website who would like to affiliate themselves with us just needs to inform us and we will put up a link on our site to theirs. The intention again is to grow the sport.

The Association will also run an annual cup competition for individuals and for teams representing their county. This will be called the Octathalon and the event will be run by the UKXTA. For more details on the Octathalon, please visit its bespoke website www.octathalon.com. The UKXTA understand that all sports have standards. 18 holes in golf - not 20 or 25 nor any par 6 or par 7 holes. No 350 meter athletic races either. Because of that we recognise a standard course is an absolute requirement and because no one else is working on this and we are putting efforts in, we are working to make the Octathalon the standard sport. With the success of the Octathalon, we expect Cross training to have a massive spin off with many more people wanting to get involved and many more events resulting.

The Association will also look to promote the sport on an International stage when competitions take off internationally. It is hoped that the any money raised will go into covering expenses for competitors abroad who are competing and representing their country.

The Association will also act to find any central grants that may be available for the promotion of the sport and for the benefits of the individual members and the club members in running competitions.

Recognised competitions

Anyone wishing to put on a competition can become affiliate members of The Association and can advertise that the event has been recognised by the sport's governing body - The U.K.X.T.A. To do this the event organiser must send details of the event to The Association so that it can be checked to see if it conforms to our safety standards in respect of the activities in the event. If The Association thinks there might be any dangerous exercises or activities that could lead to bodily damage in any way then the event will not receive recognised status. If the event is successfully recognised The Association will post the details of the event on the website. Currently there will be no charge for this to the organiser and there are no plans to do so in the future unless it is in the interests of all parties. One such future situation might be in the provision of insurance. The Association is currently looking into a group insurance package for the benefit of all those in the sport.

No Annual Membership Fee

However in the interests of promoting the sport and in gaining growing numbers of participants, it will be requested that all competitors become members of The Association. This initially will be an annual fee of £0, which should be sufficient to cover the costs of running the website.  The organisers will be sent lists of the members and their membership numbers before their event. We would also ask that people be generous in the sight of the cause we are looking to promote.

National register of personal best times

For individuals taking out membership, they will be able to have their best times posted on the site for the entry process into the National Cup Competition. They will also be eligible for entry into the rankings system. They will also be emailed to notify them in advance as soon as any new competition has been arranged and how to get in contact with the organisers.

Anyone will be able to go onto the free website to see how their times compare to other people in the UK. The same will be true for the teams that will be competing.

The fastest times posted will be invited each year to compete in the Cross Training Cup.

Several Association competitions

Aside from the national cross training cup, there are the UK rankings list of the top Cross Trainers. Points will be awarded on the basis of positions placed in competitions done in the last 12 months.

There is also an age group category competition. We are currently looking for sponsorship for these areas so that our members can benefit from winning these each year.

The Future

We believe that in the new format of the Octathalon Cup and Club competition, thousands of people all over the world will enjoy competing and many many more will love watching the races.

On the agenda in the coming months is the plan to run special coaching courses so that The Association develops its own Cross Training coaches. These individuals will acquire the highly specialist knowledge that is required to train the best athletes to becoming winning CrossTrainers.
